Browns sign two, place Ogbah and Meder on IR

Two injuries to the Browns defense forced the team to make some roster moves on Tuesday.

The team placed defensive linemen Emmanuel Ogbah and Jamie Meder on injured reserve on Tuesday afternoon. Ogbah suffered a broken foot and Meder suffered a high ankle sprain during Sunday’s game against Jacksonville and will miss the remainder of the 2017 season.

Ogbah, a promising second year player is tied for the team lead with four sacks in addition to 29 tackles, six pass deflections, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in ten games.

Meder, who has been with the team since the end of the 2014 season played in all ten games this season, starting in one. He had 13 tackles and had a huge part in having the sixth best rush defense in the NFL.

To fill the vacant roster spots, the team signed defensive back Justin Currie and promoted defensive lineman Tyrone Holmes from their practice squad.

Currie was on the Browns practice squad during the last four games of last season and hasn’t appeared in an NFL game.

Holmes has been apart of the organization since being claimed off waivers following the 2016 preseason. He appeared in 11 games last season, recording five tackles and a sack. This season he was on the active roster for the season opener against Pittsburgh and has spent the remainder of the season on the team’s practice squad.

To fill the spot on the practice squad, the team signed defensive back Jacob Hagen.

The 25 year old rookie hasn’t appeared in an NFL game but has spent time with the Rams and Steelers’ practice squad since going undrafted in 2015.
