Myles Garrett returns to practice

The Cleveland Browns may have an 0-3 record but a gleam of hope returned to the practice field on Thursday.

First overall pick Myles Garrett stepped onto the practice field for the first time in three weeks and participated in individual drills during the media portion of Thursday’s practice.

The rookie defensive end hasn’t played in a regular season game yet this season since suffering a high ankle sprain on September 6.

Last week he was seen out of the walking boot and was mostly on the bike during practice while doing some running on the sidelines. He also did some pregame work before the Colts game but was inactive.

Coach Jackson said Garrett participated in team drills and “looked like Myles”. Also said he wants to see how the ankle will respond to Garrett being back out on the field and wants to be “cautious and smart” when it comes bringing him back.

Linebacker Joe Schobert said Garrett looked good and had a virtual sack during practice which is a good sign.

Based on the videos that the team and media members have posted, there’s no noticeable limp and looked as smooth as he did during the preseason.

If he can go this weekend against Cincinnati, it’ll likely be on a limited snap count but would bring a shot in the arm to the defense that has struggled to create pressure during the first few weeks of the season.

They are however facing a Bengals offensive line that’s allowed 11 sacks so far this season as they’re still transitioning from losing Andrew Whitworth and Kevin Zeitler in free agency.

Hopefully the Browns have a plan to ease Garrett back into the fold and don’t rush him so he doesn’t re-aggravate the injury for the sake of his career and the team’s investment.
