Browns News & Notes (9-8-17)

Here’s some news and notes from the day regarding the Browns

Garrett out, Shelton questionable

Defensive end Myles Garrett has officially been ruled out for Sunday’s matchup against Pittsburgh with his high ankle sprain.

Defensive tackle Danny Shelton is listed as questionable with the knee injury he suffered during the preseason. Shelton is expected to play but I would expect he’ll be limited and with the depth at defensive tackle, that should be good enough.

Everyone else on the active roster is healthy and ready to go for the season opener.

Nacua, Bello signed to active roster

Defensive back Kai Nacua and linebacker B.J. Bello have been signed to the active roster as of Friday morning.

With needed depth at the safety and linebacker positions, both were needed heading into Sunday’s game.

Nacua will backup Jabrill Peppers while Bello will likely backup Joe Schobert at the “Mike” linebacker position.

I’m also sure they’ll be playing special teams a lot during the game.

Hogan named backup quarterback

Hue Jackson announced that Kevin Hogan will be the backup quarterback to rookie DeShone Kizer.

Jackson said that he wants to reward people who have played well and have earned it and he believes Hogan has earned this spot on the depth chart.

Hogan performed good in the final two preseason games against Tampa Bay and Chicago, out performing Cody Kessler with the backup units.

Jackson did state that Kessler is still confident and may earn back the #2 role at some point during the season.

Browns donating to hurricane relief

The Browns players led by Houston native Emmanuel Ogbah helped raise over $24,000 for Team Rubicon’s relief effort.

Team Rubicon according to their twitter page is a group combined of military veterans and first  responders to help in emergency situation such as natural disasters.

The Browns organization announced that they will match that $24,000.
