Browns Draft Howard Wilson

Browns came into the draft needing to find another cornerback. On Saturday they found one….

They traded up from their 145th overall selection with Denver to the 126th overall selection to select Houston cornerback Howard Wilson.

He only had one full time season as a starter but he made the most of it in 2016 with five interceptions to go along with 54 tackles and five pass deflections. He was selected as a first team All-American Athletic Conference.

It was a great comeback after the 2015 season when he tore his ACL three games into the season.

Here’s his scouting report via NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein

Smooth athlete with excellent length who has a long history of making plays on the football. Wilson is fast and fluid and he’s willing to do his part as a tackler, but he needs more muscle and more experience before he’s ready to handle some of the physical receivers he will see in the league. Wilson’s size, speed and ball skills will be coveted traits and they give him a chance to become a good NFL starter with time.

The Browns have Joe Haden, Jamar Taylor and Briean Boddy-Calhoun in front of Wilson but as good of an athlete as he is and still with room to grow as a corner.

I expect him to make the roster and perhaps during the season getting significant playing time as the Browns secondary needs a talent injection and it’s shown in the draft with the selections of Wilson and first round pick Jabrill Peppers.
